Air Jordan 5 Retro OG 'Black Metallic' Official Images

Coming sonner than expected…and in its true form.

There was a lot of speculation that we wouldn't see a Air Jordan 5 'Metallic' until late fall. With the 'Fire Red' releasing earlier this month and the 'Wolf Grey' releasing later this month, Jordan Brand is geared up to give fans a summer to remember. It had just been announced that the Nike Air Jordan 5 'Black/Metallic Silver' will be hitting shelves late July at a retail of $225 USD.

But, before we take a look at the sneakers, lets brief over the history of this classic silhouette and why this return will be massive for sneakerheads. The Nike Air Jordan 5 'Metallic' made its debut in 1990. J-heads got the chance to see a retro rendition return in early 2000, both boasting the Nike Air motif on the heel. Jordan Brand brought back the silhouette 2007 and again in 2011, but this time there was something different. The iconic Nike Air insignia on the heel was replaced with Jordan's famous Jumpman.

Now making another return in 2016, the 'Metallic' Nike Air Jordan 5 is back – in true form. Black nubuck upper, transparent mesh netting with a matching transparent outsole. As before, a black midsole compliments the colorway, while metallic silver with a black speckled overlay fills in the fighter jet graphic also adding to the midsole. What takes the cake is original heel, sporting the Nike Air logo we've all grown to love.
